Along the way I've made time for creating. I recently completed a handmade book titled Four Sisters. This project has been in my mind for ages. It is inspired by the lives and tragic death of the Romanov Sisters, Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia. 100 years ago I watched a movie of the week called Anastasia, staring Amy Irving. It was about the myth of Anastasia surviving the murder of her family and living her life under an assumed identity. Since then I've read many factual books about Russia and the reign of Nicholas & Alexandra.
I am so interested in the history of this country. The architecture, art, textiles, everything. The good and the bad. I have a little background in the subject as well. My Step Father was Russian and his father fought in the Tzar's Army as a young boy.
Enough of the backstory, here is the book. Page by page.
I had so much fun putting this book together. I usually use actual photographs in my work but had to work off photocopies this time. I used quite a few techniques to give the images depth and make them interesting.
There's a chance I may be teaching this book at an upcoming class. Now that the kids are getting older and more independent I'm thinking of putting my toe back into the workshop pool.
